This is one of the most unintuitive natural observation, which to date has no known reasonable, nor scientific accepted explanation.

Hot water can in fact freeze faster than cold water for a wide range of experimental conditions.

Not exactly. The correct statement is "Hot water can in fact freeze faster than cold water for a wide range of experimental conditions." It's not true that hot water always freezes faster than cold water (despite what some bloggers and trivia games imply).
